Feeling inspired from all the sights at this year’s Vancouver Home + Design Show, I recently embarked on my own home renovation project.  Actually, that’s not totally true – I “embarked” on this project quite some time ago but not until recently has it (finally!) been completed. With the help of Kelly Golby Real Estate Services who shared my vision of renovating with resale in mind, I was able to find the perfect blank canvas – a beauty of a townhouse whose bare walls and generic finishings practically screamed “potential”! I decided to keep the space bright, minimalist and modern, adding small touches of character that, together, make a big impact.

Flooring from Divine Hardwood in a modern grey tone throughout added warmth, while a new railing custom made by Dave DeGobbi of Classic Railings Ltd. in a similar hue help tie the space together. I chose to keep a majority of the walls a lighter shade to emphasize the rooms’ airiness but with the help of Friendly Decorator, had some fun with an accent wall that now also acts as the perfect backdrop for a beautiful art piece.

New furniture from CB2, Urban Barn, Moe’s Home Collection and IKEA in complementary hues and patterns inject some much-needed character into the space while also providing form and functionality.

Of course, I’m sure any woman can attest that no home renovation is complete without a total closet overhaul! I had custom closets from All In Order Closets installed and am enjoying every bit of storage potential they managed to squeeze out of the minimal space.

The fact that I can actually find things now doesn’t hurt either – organization is a wonderful thing. Now on to my next task: shopping to fill all those sparsely populated shelves and racks…

What do you think of my new space?
