Feb 2, 2013

The 2013 Great Big Home + Garden Show kicks off today at the Cleveland I-X Center with more than 650 exhibitors and plenty of new products, fresh ideas and fun for the whole family!

The excitement begins on The Main Stage at 10:30 a.m. with the 16th annual Student Model Home Design Contest Awards, featuring the work of students in grades 10 to 12 taking classes in the building trades at schools across Northeast Ohio. Next, stick around as professional organizer Peter Walsh from the hit TLC show “Clean Sweep” presents “Getting Your Home and Life Organized Once and For All” on The Main Stage at 11 a.m. (or catch him again at 3 p.m.). An autograph session will follow.

Combined with The Main Stage, the Loretta Paganini Cooking Stage will offer guests the opportunity to taste and enjoy culinary delights! Dante Boccuzzi, owner of DBA, Dante and DC Pasta Co., will demo “Pasta Favorites” at noon, and Matt Fish, owner and chef of local favorite Melt Bar and Grilled, will present “Classic Comfort Food at its Best” at 1 p.m. Be sure to tour the state-of-the-art kitchen stage and vignette built by Pepperwood Signature Homes & Remodeling and Little Mountain Homes between presentations, and stop by later to see “Top Shelf Treats” at 4 p.m. with Becky Rink from About the Cake Inc.

Sick of the cold weather and longing for spring? Catch Angelo Petitti of Petitti Garden Centers at 1:30 p.m. as he presents “Angelo's Plant Picks for 2013” at The Petitti Gardening Stage. Then, stroll through the U.S. landmark-themed gardens designed by the area’s most talented landscapers in the Garden Showcase. Don’t forget to vote for your favorite garden in the People’s Choice Awards sponsored by The Plain Dealer, and enjoy a unique fine dining experience amid the beauty of the gardens at the Cambria Bistro, a full-service, white-tablecloth restaurant.

Back on The Main Stage, Architectural Justice will host an extraordinary fashion show at 2 p.m. that combines Haute Couture with interior design. With architecturally-inspired pieces designed by the students at Virginia Marti College of Art and Design, Architectural Justice’s Product Runway will showcase the correlation between fashion, architecture and interior design. At 5 p.m., The Main Stage Emcee Matt Fox, co-host of HGTV’s “Room by Room” and host and producer of the public television series “Around the House with Matt and Shari,” will present “Great Weekend Projects.”

In addition to these scheduled events, be sure to tour the 4,000-square-foot, Tuscan-styled Idea Home built by Perrino Builders that will inspire you with ways to create your dream house from concept to completion. A 2,000-square-foot Dream Basement built by Custom Remodeling and Design will also be on-site that will offer fresh ideas for your own entertainment and recreation areas that will meet the desires of the entire family. Sit back and relax in one of 15 leather, power-reclining home theater seats and experience live demonstrations in Xtend Technologies’ Home Theater.
